SWEET HEART RODEO

Titling her fourth album ‘Sweet Heart Rodeo’ Dawn was thinking of her great-grandmother’s beau, a young man who ran away to join the rodeo and decades later inspired Landes to write the title song. A rodeo theme runs throughout the record, as Landes compares the ups and downs of romance and relationships to the rigours of bull riding. Again working with regular collaborator, drummer and all-rounder Ray Rizzo, her recording outfit was completed by guitarist Josh Kaufman and bassist Annie Nero.Sweet Heart Rodeo is packed with fine tunes, beautifully sung. By the album’s conclusion, you’ll probably be thinking of giving love a try. Even if it does hurt when you fall off.

FIREPROOF was made in an old fire-station in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Recorded mostly live to 2" tape with Ray Rizzo on the drums, Jonny Flower on bass, dawn on guitar/vocals, and Adam Lasus at the tape machine. Dawn camped out in the studio alone for a week doing overdubs and tinkering with various electronics, then Gary Maurer came in to mix the record. Bob Hoffnar, Steve Curtis, and Gary Maurer (all members of the band HEM) added beautiful things to the album.

Artist Danica Novgorodoff did all of the drawings and artwork, then Dawn silkscreened and stamped them into the world!

dawn's music comes from the mouth and mind and fingers of 24 year old Louisville transplant dawn Landes. Now based in NYC, dawn has toured both nationally and abroad and worked with several respected artists (HEM, Philip Glass, Joseph Arthur) in the recording studio as an assistant engineer. As a performer, dawn has shared the stage with Suzanne Vega, Rainer Maria, Hem, Shannon Wright, Throwing Muses, Mary Lou Lord, Jane Siberry, and Juliana Hatfield.

Playing a variety of instruments ranging from an 8 dollar harmony guitar to a pink accordion, dawn and her accomplices play in a variety of situations. dawns music is a self release that's now available in Europe through the French label ocean music.
